A Woodsmith and His Mountain Beagle
On the side of a mountain just outside the little town of Bailey, Colorado, sits a small workshop surrounded by tall pines and quiet views. This is where the woodsmith lives and works, alongside his faithful Mountain Beagle, Paul.
Each morning, Paul leads the way outside, nose to the ground, while the woodsmith follows with a cup of coffee, taking in the fresh mountain air. Then it’s into the woodshop, where the magic begins.
The workshop is simple, but special. Stacks of wood line the walls—cedar, oak, and pine—each one waiting to become something meaningful. The woodsmith studies every piece carefully, running his hands along the grain, imagining what it could become.
People travel up the mountain with ideas. Some want bookcases to hold their favorite stories. Others need cabinetry to bring peace and structure to their homes. Many ask for cedar furniture to enjoy on quiet decks under Colorado skies.
“Your imagination is our inspiration,” the sign above the door reads—and the woodsmith lives by it.
As the woodsmith works, Paul stays close. Sometimes he naps in the sunlight, sometimes he watches quietly, as if he understands the importance of every cut and every detail.
One day, a visitor asks for something special—a piece to hold family memories. The woodsmith listens, then carefully selects the perfect wood. With patience and skill, he shapes and smooths the wood until it becomes something both beautiful and personal.
When the piece is finished, it feels like more than just wood joined together—it feels like a story brought to life.
Seasons come and go on the mountain, but the work never stops. The woodsmith continues creating, inspired by the people who visit and the wood he shapes. And through it all, Paul remains by his side, a loyal companion in a place where craft, imagination, and nature come together.
